2019 Summer Camps

Extended Care is available before and after each camp. Before and After care is included in each Full Day Camp. 
*Before Care begins 8am, After Care ends 5pm*
If your camper is attending a Half Day Camp and in need of before or after care; you will have the option of purchase when registering. 

 

  • Submit registration form with full payment or a non-refundable, 50% deposit in order to reserve your spot.

  • Remaining balance is due 30 days prior to the start date of the registered Summer Camp. A $25 late-processing fee will be added for late balance payments.

  • Planetarium Members receive a 10% discount on a Half Day Camp! 

  • Please read the Parent Info Sheet for extended information.

  • We reserve the right to cancel a camp and refund the money for the campers in it, in the case of insufficient attendance.

                                 Lunch (included) + Recess from 12pm-1pm.


Half Day Camps - AM Camp: 9am-12pm.
                                 PM Camp: 1pm-4pm.

Week One - June 3rd - June 7th

2nd & 3rd Grade Camp- 
AM: Chemistry Challenge  
PM: Dot and Dash Robotics I


Chemistry Challenge :  Students will observe and perform basic chemistry experiments in a safe and exciting environment. Learn about how real people use chemistry to solve mysteries and learn about our world. 

Dot and Dash Robotics I :  Teams of campers will design solutions for real-world science and technology challenges by programming Robots Dot and Dash. They will develop problem-solving and creativity skills while building meaningful relationships with their peers and having fun! Plus, they will display their scientific thinking through authentic programming and coding.

4th & 5th Grade Camp: 
AM: Crazy Contraptions
PM: Lego Creator Bots 


Crazy Contraptions : Campers will have a blast designing and building amazing moving machines and combine them to create crazy chain reactions.  The combinations are as endless as their imagination. Campers will join their individual machines in the collaborative creation of crazier and more complex chain reactions for amazing results.

Lego Creator Bots :  This program provides the basics of engineering to design a variety of working robots and their accessories. Teams will build working models and will experiment with flying monkeys, R2D2, Dragons, Mars Rovers and more!
 

6th - 8th Grade Camp: 
AM: EV3 Mars Mission Mania
PM: Rocket Rush!



EV3 Mars Mission Mania: Take an adventure where campers will work in teams to build and program LEGO® MINDSTORM EV3 robots. Mission : Create different robotics that can travel to Mars, collect different types of data and navigate the tough terrain of Mars!


Rocket Rush!:  Looking for a blast? Nothing but rocket fun for an entire week! Build and keep all kinds of rocketry.  Throughout the week campers build more and more complex rockets using a variety of fuel sources and launching methods.  

Week Two - June 10th - June 14th

K-1st Grade Camp- 
*9am-Noon: Little Astronauts

Little Astronauts: Campers will have five days of space camp fun which includes rocketry, planetarium labs, rover designs, telescopes, and much more. Travel to the planets and beyond in a way that only Drake Planetarium can do for a week that is guaranteed to be remembered!
 

2nd & 3rd Grade Camp- 
AM: Jr. Architects I  
PM: Rockin' Rockets I


Jr. Architects I: In this program students will enjoy learning the principles of architecture using modeling and engineering techniques used throughout the ages. Campers will learn about ancient pyramids, building design, city design, and much more for a week of build fun.

Rockin' Rockets I: Blast your child into a full week of rocket fun! Students will create a variety of flying rocket models, some of which can be taken home. All types of rocketry will be discussed and presented; students will have different challenges to let them test their rocket knowledge.


 

4th & 5th Grade Camp- 
AM: Space Bots
PM: Advanced Engineering


Space Bots :  Calling all space and robotic enthusiasts! Campers will use engineering, programming, invention and design to build self serving space robotics! Every day, a new challenge or problem will be presented to Campers to solve using their own NXT robotic creations. 


Advanced Engineering : Campers will have an entire week of creation fun in this advanced mechanical engineering camp. Participants will be building and motorizing several models from plans designed by the Lego® Academy of Engineering. This camp is loaded with advanced building challenges.

Week Three - June 17th - June 21st

2nd & 3rd Grade Camp- 
AM: Astro Camp
PM: Science, Engineering and Art


Astro Camp: Campers will have five days of space camp fun which includes rocketry, planetarium labs, rover designs, telescopes, and much more. Campers will take quests to mars, the moon, and other planets -- discovering what is "out there."

Science, Engineering and Art : Campers spend a week doing fun science and engineering projects, perfecting the “magic” of science, and using art to illustrate the principles of science about which they are learning.

4th & 5th Grade Camp- 
AM: Battle Bots I   
PM: Tech Camp


Battle Bots I:  Be a robot engineer for a week. Design 5 different types of battling bots, then engage in competitions throughout the week.


Tech Camp: Students use electronic building blocks to design and create several different kinds of operating bots that do a variety of engineering and daily functions. Campers can choose from hundreds of bot projects to solve project challenges.
 

6th - 8th Grade Camp-

PM: Waterbotics


 Battle Bots I:  Be a robot engineer for a week. Design 5 different types of battling bots, then engage in competitions throughout the week.

 

Waterbotics: Dive into engineering fun with our National Science Foundation endorsed underwater robotic experience.  Teams of campers will create underwater robots that provide teams of students a collaborative experience where they design, build, program, and race fully functioning, underwater LEGO robots.

Week Four - June 24th - June 28th

K-1 Grade Camp- 
9AM-Noon: Young Engineers


Young Engineers:  Construct a variety of projects including roller coasters, bridges, drop towers, wire circuits, mazes, and much more. Explore the fun and exciting worlds of civil, electrical, mechanical, and chemical engineering.
 

2nd & 3rd Grade Camp- 
AM: Animal Robotics 
PM: Lego Creator Bots


Animal Robotics: This course combines robotics and programming into one. Let your budding engineer turn Lego® bricks, gears, and motors into drumming monkeys, hungry alligators, and roaring lions. Using a computer, students program the animals to move and make sounds. No previous robotic or programming experience needed!

Lego Creator Bots:  Building with Lego® and other materials can ignite imagination and creativity! Students will brainstorm, design, build, test, evaluate, and redesign a myriad models that will bring invention to life. Get them thinking like engineers and to show them how science improves people’s lives by solving everyday problems.

4th & 5th Grade Camp-

Campers will join their individual machines in the collaborative creation of crazier and more complex chain reactions for amazing results.

Car Bots: Campers will design, create and invent with Lego® and other materials different types of Car Bots. Each type will be tasked with a challenge -- How fast can you make your car? How much weight can your truck pull? and more.
 

4th & 5th Grade Camp- 
AM: EV3 NXT Alien Quest
PM: Moonbase Alpha


EV3 NXT Alien Quest: Take an adventure where campers will work in teams to build and program LEGO® MINDSTORM EV3 robots. Explore the four terrestrial planets and create robotics needed to survive and cohabitate on the surface of the inner most planets!


Moonbase Alpha: Using EV3 Technology, Campers will work together to engineer, design, and program Moonbase robotics; completing a different challenge daily! Mission : Create different robots that can travel to the Moon, collect different types of data and navigate the tough terrain of the Moon!

6th - 8th Grade Camp-

9AM-Noon: Ooey Gooey Chemistry



Ooey Gooey Chemistry: This camp is all about chemistry and the ooey-gooey things that you can make with it! We strive to show the wonders of basic chemistry in a safe, exciting, and easy-to-understand format. Not only will your children have fun, but they will also be learning key concepts for academic success in the future!

 

2nd & 3rd Grade Camp-

PM: Rockin Rockets


Young Builders: This introduces the young builder to a variety of fun simple and complex machines. Campers learn about gears, pulleys, levers, wheels, axles, and other applications for these simple machines. Students work in teams of two and students develop eye-hand coordination, team cooperation, and how to follow directions to complete a variety of build projects. This is a fun camp that covers the basics of engineering design for the budding young engineer or scientist.


Rockin' Rockets : Along with Rockets; campers will work with all types of objects that fly, propel, and launch. Each day, students will make a different type of flying object and then have challenges to test the principles of flight. Wind-tunnel technology, flight principles, and design will be part of each day’s activities.

 

4th & 5th Grade Camp-

Tech Camp II:  Ultimate inventive experience using motors, Wheels, lights, switches, servos, buzzers, even the tools to build a remote control.  Challenge based learning experience. This camp lets campers make things that do things. Campers build complex circuits that can control a RC car, game machines and 100s of other projects.

Week Nine - August 5th - August 9th

2nd & 3rd Grade Camp-
