Grade 2

Sun, Seasons, and Directions

This second grade show illustrates how the Sun's direct rays change over a period of time creating the phenomena of seasons. Students will learn how to find their directions in both the day and night sky. Also, some characteristics of the sun will be presented to the students to illustrate the physical properties of a star.

Cline Elementary

Students will be introduced to the relationship between the planets, the moon, and our star, the Sun.  Students will understand which planets are visible in the current night sky and a special lab will be presented on that planet during the program. Also, select seasonal constellations will be identified by students during their lab experience.

Moon Madness

This hands-on lab explores the motions of the moon and its phases. Students learn how to read a moon map and are trained how to locate specific features on the moon's surface. Meteors, meteorites, comets, asteroids, and other space phenomena are covered in thise enjoyable program. Students also use a star chart to locate he planets and stars of the seasonal sky.

Motions in Space

provides a labe experience that allows students to actually use the scientific method ) process approach) by graphing, predicting, observing, and drawing conclsions about what they experience in the planetarium. Students are challenged to use repetitive events like the seasons, sunrise, or moon phases to help them tell time. The concepts of rotation, revolution, seasons, axial tilt, costellations, and time are explored during this program.

Specialty Programs For Grade 2

Halloween Sky

Your second grade class will enjoy the story of Penny and her friends: Leo the Lion, Orion the Hunter, and Cygnus the Swan. Penny and your students will learn how to use their constellation friends to find their way through the nighttime sky. This is a fun way for students to get acquainted with the various seasonal star patterns.
