Planetarium Program

Laser Shows

Too busy to breathe? Too frazzled for fun? Meditainment's for you!
Meditainment is held on the third Thursday each month. Next showing is Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 7:00 pm.

These programs have a specific theme for the evening as well as a period for investigating the seasonal constellations and planets.
Public programs are held the third Sunday and the fourth Thursday of each month.

The May program will be "The Secret Of The Cardboard Rocket"

With Laser Magic, Drake Planetarium becomes an ever-changing universe of brilliantly colored astronomical imagery and animations. The laser shows incorporate classical-style 2D animation, computer-generated 3D animation, and abstract geometrics.

Sit back, relax, close your eyes and embark on a journey of Imagination Reality where you play the leading role! Join us for guided meditation under the stars at Drake Planetarium; a time to relax and rejuvenate.

What is the secret of the cardboard rocket? Two young adventurers, Marcus and Bonnie, turn an old cardboard box into a rocket and, after assembling all their supplies, blast off on an awesome adventure to the most amazing places in the solar system.

A great show for kids and adults, featuring 360 degree imagery and surround sound.

This series offers the more traditional music laser shows, as well as, the award-winning animated show, Legends of the Night Sky.

“Legends of the Night Sky”, the first traditionally animated full dome laser show, featuring thousands of hand-drawn images were created to give the audience the sensation of being in the middle of an animated cartoon. The production takes a lighthearted and imaginative look at the myths and stories associated with the constellations Perseus, Andromeda, and Orion. Scenes from this show have won first place awards from the International Laser Display Association, in 1999 and again in 2000. This humorous show appeals to kids and parents alike.

In addition, we will be offering dynamic laser light shows to the music of classic artists like the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, U2, as well as newer artists like Blink 182 and No Doubt. The laser visual display, colors and choreography are an expression of the music, leaving the audience enthralled with an experience that reaches new heights.
